Chinese culture on a plate

It is said that food is a common foundation that brings people together, it is a form of language that is universal. One of the most famous places for food is the city of Hong Kong in China; the capital city that embodies its rich history and culture through the unique complexities and combinations of numerous styles and exotic cooking. Coming from a mixed Chinese background myself, the trip I took to Hong Kong last year was truly a self-discovery one I was able to plunge deep into the rich context of stories behind famous dishes, and how modern chefs were able to turn it into mass production to share this piece of China to the world.

One of my most memorable food spots in Hong Kong was "Market Hotpot" a famous local Hotpot restaurant located in Mong Kok. The Interior design encaptures Chinese's (now controversial) wet market, seafood market and meat stall - which reflects the delicate treatment of ingredients as all are perfectly fresh and personally picked by the Chef. With its 10 soup bases to choose from - with peppered pig's stomach being my personal favourite, this restaurant truly welcomed its locals and foreigners to have a taste of its adaption of putting Chinese culture on our plate.

Hong Kong Disneyland - one of the happiest places on earth, is defiantly a key highlighter of my trip to Hong Kong. A Disney land vacation is what everyone needs to let out their inner kid to have a good time. My friends and I were able to enjoy the feeling of being young again by wearing Mickey Mouse ears and eating our body weight in candies and sweets shaped as goofy animals.

Witnessing the Disney Paint The Night Parade was a dream come true - you can see most of your favourite Disney characters dance, sing and aglow with its majestic lights and music during the parade. Children and adults smiling and laughing together whilst pointing at their desired princesses sparked a childlike joy in my friends and me, we truly got to get away from out worries of uni and be in the moment of what mattered - spending time with the ones you love.
